Check if the safety data sheet is updated?
A safety data sheet (SDS) should be updated according to current legislation at the time of delivery. The rules for safety data sheets can be found under Annex II of the REACH regulation which is regularly updated. The requirement for a product acceptance to the SEAHEALTH database must follow the changes to the regulations of safety data sheets as of January 1, 2021. The safety data sheet should therefore be dated from January 1, 2021, or later.
What language should the safety data sheet be in order to be approved in the chemical database?
Safety data sheet in either Danish or English language are accepted for approval, provided this makes sense for the company in relation to the working language on board their ships.
What special Danish legislations applies to paints and glue products?
Safety data sheet must live up the Danish special legislation for certain products. For e.g. products such as Paints, glue etc. should be identified with a Danish Code Number in order to be approved in the Chemicals Database. For epoxy and isocyanates curing time at a given temperature is required to be supplied in the SDS or in a technical safety data sheet.
How is it possible to see if the safety data sheet complies with the EU format?
The easiest way is to check if there are any European (including Danish) suppliers or manufacturer under section 1 of the safety data sheet. If there is no European supplier or manufacturer under section 1, you must contact the supplier and inquire if the submitted safety data sheet complies with the EU format. If the supplier responds with a YES, we would like to check if the safety data sheet can be approved. A reference to CLP (Regulation 1272/2008) is also an indication of an EU-compliant SDS.
